Harry’s Nine Month Update

Harry’s Nine Month Update

I can’t believe that Harry is 9 months old today! It has gone so fast and it’s crazy to think that he is now as old as the length of a pregnancy! I know I say this most months but I think 9 months is quite a big one really.

Weight & Size

I had Harry weighed a week or two after my last update and unfortunately he had only put 40g on (for perspective he put 700g on the month before!), so he is only 19lb 7oz now. He was poorly with general colds, a throat infection and teething last month so I’m hoping it’s down to that because he was being sick most meals. It was really horrible to watch and I still dread meal times because I’m so worried about him being sick, but I’m hopeful that he will have put more weight on this month as he already feels more solid again. He is now pretty much exclusively in 9-12 month clothes, with only the odd thing that’s 6-9 months and seems to be randomly huge, so that’s also making me think he has put on more weight.

Trying to Conceive Baby Number 2

Trying to Conceive Baby Number 2

I can’t believe I’m actually writing this so soon after having my first baby, but I am officially trying for a second. It seems like absolute madness and only about 5 minutes since I had Harry, but there are several reasons why we have started so soon and I thought it would be interesting to document this time in our lives as we are going through it. Especially, as we probably won’t be telling people until 12 weeks if I do become pregnant again, and as I feel that this is a bit like a diary, it will probably be one of the few spaces I talk about being pregnant at the very early stages, so I might as well start at the very beginning.

Third Trimester

Third Trimester

I went into labour at 38 weeks and 4 days and had Harry the next day so I didn’t experience a lot of the uncomfortable symptoms typical of the third trimester, because I just didn’t get that big. Therefore, I actually really enjoyed the third trimester of my pregnancy with Harry and want to document it on my blog, like I have done with my first and second trimesters (even though Harry is coming up to 9 months old now!).

Symptoms

I finished work at 32 weeks pregnant, which really helped ease my symptoms. I found it really hard working as a midwife (especially on delivery suite) the whole time I was pregnant really, but especially during the third trimester. I experienced quite a lot of Braxton Hicks contractions after work and after night shifts I was completely exhausted, but I was able to add on my annual leave before my maternity leave and could go off quite early, which really helped. I still delivered a baby in the last half hour of my last shift though, which felt like quite a feat at 32 weeks!

Second Trimester

Second Trimester

Now I know it has been a while since I was pregnant, and especially since I was in the second trimester, but I really wanted to write down what I do remember so that I can look back on this later on.

Symptoms

I found the second trimester to be the easiest of the three trimesters, in terms of symptoms. I think this was mostly because my bump was not that big until towards the end of the second trimester, and all of the nausea and tiredness from the first trimester had gone. I was really fortunate to not suffer with any heartburn or SPD pain throughout the whole of my pregnancy so these weren’t an issue for me during this trimester. As I remember I struggled the most with dealing with a bump and working as a midwife during this trimester, as even though I wasn’t that big, getting into the necessary but really awkward positions to help other people have their babies was really tough and tiring.

Harry’s Eight Month Update

Harry’s Eight Month Update

Weight & Size

Harry was weighed just after my last update and he weighs 19lb 6oz and is still tracking in between the 50th and 75th centile for weight, which I’m really pleased with. He is now fitting in some of his 9-12 month clothes, for example most of his trousers are now this size, but he also still wears a lot of his 6-9 month clothes too. It’s so awkward when they are in between sizes but I can’t believe he fits in 9-12 month clothes already! Time is just flying by!

Feeding

Harry is still being exclusively breastfed and is now having about 5 feeds a day but some of those are very quick and seem more like snacks for him rather than full feeds. He is still having 3 meals a day and is now moving on to more of a combination of purees and solid finger foods now that his bottom teeth have come through. He has been ill with a cold and throat infection over the last week and went really off his food which is very unlike him, but he seems to be enjoying food again now that he is starting to feel better. His favourites are still butternut squash, apples, pears and sweet potato, but he also normally likes peas, yoghurt, brocolli and toast. He has tried more meat as well, such as chicken and leek pie, which he enjoyed.

The first trimester – Scans etc. (Part 3)

The first trimester – Scans etc. (Part 3)

I have written about the first trimester in two other blog posts; one about finding out I was pregnant (which you can findĀ here) and one about the symptoms I experienced (which you can findĀ here). So I thought I would finish off writing about the first trimester now, even though it has now been a fair while since I was in the first trimester.

Scans

I ended up having three scans in the first trimester, although I only have pictures from two of them because one was a quick reassurance one. I absolutely loved the scans, although only as soon as I knew everything was ok. It is amazing seeing your little baby wriggling around!

Harry’s Seven Month Update

Harry’s Seven Month Update

Harry is now seven months old! This last month has been lovely (possibly one of my favourites) and he has changed so much!

Weight & Size

I haven’t had Harry weighed this month as he was weighed just before the last update, so I’m going to go this week. He is still in 6-9 month clothes.

Feeding

There hasn’t been much change in this area either for Harry. He is still exclusively breastfed in terms of his milk intake and is still having 3 meals a day. He is still good at taking a bottle of expressed milk when he needs it but that only happens very occasionally now. He is still on mainly purees with some finger food, which he is doing really well with, and he has had some meat as well now! I blended some beef hot pot I had made, and he absolutely loved it.
