I saw this tag on Ysis Lorenna’s blog and thought it would be a good way to share a bit more about myself so here goes …
1. Are you a stay-at-home mum, or a working mum?
I am a mummy on maternity leave at the moment. I actually work as a midwife and I do plan to go back to work after my year of maternity leave.
2. Would you have it any other way?
Even though I am only two months into motherhood I really wouldn’t have it any other way. Anyone who knows me in my personal life knows how much I love children and that I have wanted to be a mother for so long, although now to less children (I used to want 8!).
3. Do you co-sleep?
Harry starts off in his crib that is attached to our bed and we plan to keep him in our room until he is at least 6 months old. I start every night with the best of intentions not to bring Harry into our bed but that always seem to go out of the window by the 3am feed!
4. What is your one must-have item for your baby?
At the moment I would say our bedside crib. We have the Snuzpod in Espresso which matches our bed and I just love that Harry is right next to me all night.
5. How many kids do you plan on having?
We plan on having 4 kids! I would love to have another baby quite soon so that Harry has a sibling that is close to him in age, and then a gap of at least a couple of years and then another two children close together.
6. Date night? How many nights per month?
Seeing as Harry is only two months old we haven’t had a date night at all yet. However, it is my birthday next month so we’re planning on having our first night out then! Woohoo!
7. Your child’s favourite show?
He doesn’t have a favourite show yet but Love Island was a maternity leave dream for me so he ended up watching a lot of that and I like to think he enjoyed it. His dad certainly did. The number of times he would just happen to be ready with a cup of tea for when it came on was too much to pass off as coincidental! I’ve even ended up working my way through the first series too!
8. Name one thing you bought before you had your baby and never ended up using?
I’m sure there will be many, many other items that I buy and never use but the main one that springs to mind so far has been a swaddle bag. We tried it when Harry was a very new newborn but it scared me too much because he loved having his arms up by his head and would sometimes get the bag a bit too close to his face for my comfort. Mum worries!
9. Your child’s favourite food?
He doesn’t have a favourite food yet, but during pregnancy I absolutely LOVED strawberries and chocolate eclairs, and now that I’m breastfeeding I eat a lot of twirl bites. They are just so good! I think I may write some blog posts in the future about my experiences with food cravings in pregnancy because they are some of my friends favourite stories about me. As a hint, one involves asking a girl in school uniform where she got the chocolate eclair that she was eating from because I couldn’t find one anywhere. Another story involves me, a service station, and a serious amount of food. If you think going food shopping when you are hungry is a bad life decision, try going to a service station when you are pregnant, hungry and with no one to tell you to STOP EATING THE FOOD!
10. How many cars does your family have?
We have two cars; I have a Polo and so does my husband. They are actually pretty cute parked next to each other on the drive but it isn’t deliberate to have matching cars, we just both like Polos and they suited us when we each needed a new car. I can’t see us having the same car again though.
11. Weight gain before pregnancy, during, after and now?
Surprisingly, seeing as mentioned above I did love my food when I was pregnant, I only gained about two stone during my pregnancy (I’m not exactly sure because I didn’t weigh myself in the last couple of weeks before Harry was born). I have always been fortunate with my weight growing up and have never had any issues with it so pre-pregnancy I was happy with my weight. Immediately after Harry was born I lost about a stone, and now 2 months post partum I am about half a stone heavier than my pre-pregnancy weight. I am not fussed about losing it though because I’m back in my normal clothes and I’m breastfeeding so I feel like my boobs alone weigh an extra half a stone! I wish these boobs would stay. They are my fifteen year old, flat as a pancake, self’s dream, and I plan to enjoy them as much as possible seeing as I know they will never be the same once I stop breastfeeding.
12. Dream holiday with your kids?
I haven’t really thought about holidays to be honest. I always enjoyed going camping around Europe with my family growing up so something like that would be good when he is older.
13. Dream holiday without your kids?
I would love to go somewhere nice and hot like the Amalfi Coast in Italy or the Greek Island Santorini, but I feel like it will be a long time before I feel comfortable leaving Harry for a holiday.
14. How has your life changed since your baby has been born?
I just feel really content. Obviously my life has changed massively in terms of what I now spend my days doing but I just feel so happy and like I wouldn’t change anything. I’m completely loving every day and really enjoying each stage for how it is.
15. Finish the sentence: ‘It makes my heart melt to see … ‘
Harry smile at me! It really is the loveliest thing and makes all the hard work of the newborn days seem worth it.
16. Where do you shop for your kids?
I mainly shop in Tesco and Next for baby clothes. I find that they both have a reasonable selection of things although there are definitely way more things for girls than boys, and I think the quality is good!.
17. Favourite makeup and skincare products?
My favourite makeup product is mascara, specifically this one from Max Factor and this one from No7. My favourite skincare product is this Superfacialist facial oil which I have bought so many times and still love. I also really like the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, and the Liz Earle toner.
18. Huggies or Pampers?
Pampers. I am open to trying other brands as well though but we have bought Pampers the most.
19. Have you always wanted kids?
Yes! I have definitely always wanted lots of kids!
20. Best part about being a mum?
I would say the best part is seeing this little person that you have created learn more things every day, and also the way they beam at you like you are the centre of their world.
Anyway, I hope that lets you know a little bit more about me. I think I might do a more general one as well soon, because as a new mum it is easy to feel like you have lost your identity a little bit.
